China issues safety warning about Chrysler cars
China's top quality watchdog has issued a safety risk warning on five models of vehicles Chrysler Group LLC is recalling worldwide, asking consumers to report any injury incurred from the flawed vehicles to the agency's local branches.
Vehicles involved in the recall include: Chrysler Jeep Wrangler SUVs, 2007 through 2010 for brakes that could fail; 2008-2009 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans for doors that could catch fire; and 2007 Dodge Caliber minivans and Jeep Compass SUVs for accelerators that could stick, according to a post on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Chrysler said 3,628 imported Jeep Wranglers on the China market have a defect that allows liners inside the fender to touch the brake lines, but other vehicles sold in the country do not have the above-mentioned defects, safety authorities said.
Some of the vehicles that do have those defects may have been brought to China by individuals from abroad or are in the country for other reasons, Chrysler added.
Chrysler said the company is making plans to fix the defects and will officially recall Jeep Wranglers in September.
Chinese safety authorities advise car owners involved in the recall to contact local Chrysler service centers for examination and repair.
Chrysler recalled nearly 600,000 of the flawed vehicles in the United States, US safety regulators said on June 7.
