General Motors to introduce smaller SUVs & pick-up trucks

With an aim to attain domestic sales of 2,00,000 vehicles in the next five years, General Motors India (GMI) would soon introduce smaller SUVs and low cost pick-up trucks in India.

GM V-P (global sales) Jonathan Browning said that the company is all set to introduce the same from its Chinese partner Wooling Motors’ stable.  India is a potentially big market and we look forward to utilize all opportunities coming our way to have a sizeable presence here, he further added.

GM has a large market presence in China and sells over a million vehicles annually catering to a wide variety of segments. It plans to bring Wooling’s low-cost Chinese vehicles in India and may look at assembling rather than importing them to avoid steep import taxes.

GMI is also working on an array of alternate technologies such as biodiesel LPG, CNG and electric vehicles.

It is to be mentioned here that the company recently launched a special ‘Muzic’ edition of its flagship small car, Spark, priced at Rs 3.27 lakh (ex-showroom). GM will also launch two more cars this year, including the Cruze sedan and a mini car by this year end.
