2008 São Paulo Auto Show: Ford Shines

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — Ford has its own design hall here at the 2008 São Paulo Auto Show, and in it were Beauty and Beast concepts based on the Ka, and the debut of the bifuel EcoSport SUV, along with a lineup of 2009 models. The EcoSport 2.0 bifuel version is going on sale here in November. Ford also showed the Edge, which is priced at the equivalent of $75,000 here and is the most luxurious Ford product in the Brazil market. The Ka-based local concepts should draw attention this week at the show. The Beast, as its name implies, is the more aggressive of the pair, able to reach 155 mph with a 2.0 engine, while The Beauty is a two-seater equipped with a 1.6-liter engine. There's also a Ka with the Trial sporty appearance package that had been only available for the Fiesta previously. Ford also showed a variety of models including the 2009 New Focus with the Titanium package, inspired by the European version of the same name. Another, more curious example of a show styling special was the F-250 Tractor, which had caterpillar tracks in place of wheels. The regular line of models was present, such as the Fusion, Ranger, F-250 and so on, as well as the 548-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500 for Ford fans.Ford has announced it will invest $3.4 billion in the Brazil region, aiming to launch 23 new or restyled models between 2009 and 2013. After all, this is the automaker's third most important market, after the United States and the U.K. Inside Line says: Good way for Ford to kick off its 90th anniversary of presence in Brazil. — Rodolpho Siqueira, Correspondent
