Newly launched in Europe and the winner of Tire Technology of the Year at the Tire Technology International Awards, the Energy Saver is Michelin¡¯s new fourth generation of ¡°green¡± car tyres, comprising a complete range that replaces the company¡¯s Energy range. Michelin says that by generating fuel savings of nearly 0.2 litres per 100 km* the Energy Saver tyre reduces CO2 emissions by 4 g/km and the cost of a full tank of fuel by almost £1.50.
As a result, fitting four Energy Saver tyres to a car produces fuel savings sufficient to pay for one of the tyres after just 45,000km.
The technology deployed in the Michelin Energy Saver range improves rolling resistance by nearly 20%*, while also shortening braking distances.
The European Commission¡¯s late 2007 proposals for CO2 limits for new cars encompass emissions reductions of 10 g/km to be achieved by tyre manufacturers and suppliers of air conditioning systems by 2012.
*ISO test conducted by TÜV SÜD Automotive in 2007 on store-bought 175/65 R14, 195/65 R15 and 205/55 R16 tyres produced by five major-brand manufacturers.
