Dongfeng Nisaan produces 1 millionth vehicle in China
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (NML) announced on September 19 that cumulative production at Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company (DFL PV) reached one million units. This milestone comes just five years after the company was established.
"We're proud to have produced one million units in only five years," said Toshiaki Otani, managing director of DFL PV. "This achievement has been possible through the work of dedicated Nissan personnel who have the advantage of being able to build quality products at two state-of-the art DFL PV plants - the benchmarks for Nissan's global plants."
According to Nissan, the one millionth vehicle to roll off the production lines is the all-new Nissan X-TRAIL, an SUV scheduled to reach showrooms in early November. The X-TRAIL is the fourth model to launch from DFL PV this year. It offers Chinese customers a new experience for both on- and off-road driving excitement and features the latest in automotive technology, including all-mode 4x4-i.
The X-TRAIL completes DFL PV's full production line-up, which includes luxury and mid-sized sedans, hatchbacks, MPVs and crossovers manufactured at two facilities in China. At the Huadu plant, the Nissan Tiida, Sylphy, Livina series, Qashqai and X-TRAIL are manufactured, while the Teana is built at the Xiangfan plant.
DFL PV also announced today that the company's first exports - Livina C-Gear and Sylphy - headed to Egypt. Both vehicles will be sold in Egypt through the local Nissan distribution network.
"The start of exporting is testimony to the high quality of vehicles DFL PV builds," said Colin Dodge, senior vice president of NML. "We will continue to work to develop the market in China and evaluate the feasibility of developing additional export markets."
Nissan's total sales in China for the calendar year through August were 354,437 units, an increase of 20 percent versus the prior year. Nissan has targeted sales of 500,000 units for the Chinese market in 2008.
