SOUTH KOREA: Hyundai exports drive October sales

A strong showing from Hyundai Motor Company boosted sales by South Korea's automaker 3.7% year on year in October.
 
Sales of 506,471 units were also up on the 387,481 units sold in September this year.
 
Exports performed stronger than the overall trend, rising 4.6% to 401,489. Shipments were also up 29.6% on September.
 
Hyundai said it sold 269,958 vehicles in October, up 12% year on year. The growth was led by exports which reached 217,223 vehicles, up nearly 17%. Domestic sales, however, fell 4.5% to 52,735.
 
Affiliate Kia reported October sales off 0.7% to 139,871 units. Domestic sales jumped 34% and exports were down 8.2%.
 
GM Daewoo saw sales fall 11% to 73,180. Domestic sales and exports were down 9.5% and 12% respectively.
 
Renault Samsung Motors reported better news with sales up 20% to 16,295 vehicles. Exports nearly tripled on demand for the SM3 compact and Koleos SUV. Local sales slid 29%.
 
Ssangyong Motor reported a 32% drop to 7,167 sales. Domestic volume fell 39% and exports were down 26%.
