2009 Geneva Auto Show: 512-HP Koenigsegg Quant Shines as Solar Electric Supercar
GENEVA — The 512-hp Koenigsegg Quant is jockeying for position as one of the show-stopping alt-fuel offerings at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. The Quant, a four-seat solar electric car that is capable of recharging in just 20 minutes, is said to be bound for production. No word yet on pricing or availability, though. The Quant is a collaboration between Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg and NLV Solar AG. The project was jump-started when NLV, which focuses on photovoltaics and electrical power technology, tapped Koenigsegg to develop and design a test vehicle for its solar technologies. The result is a shapely and streamlined vehicle notable for its gullwing doors, expansive windshield and lack of B-pillars. It is powered by two electrical motors and has a thin film photovoltaic coating of the body along with four-wheel brake regeneration, which is said to enable the car's range to be high. The Quant has a range of 310 miles, say its creators. It has a top speed of 170 mph.Other details include adjustable rear seats, three infotainment panels in the cabin and six airbags.Inside Line says: Perhaps in the future, 'solar' and 'supercar' will be synonymous. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
