Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R to run in 2009 "Best in the Desert"
After successfully finishing third in class at the 41 SCORE Tecate Baja 100, our favorite pickup - the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R - will run in the 2009 Best in the Desert race series. Behind the controls will be veteran Ford truck racers and former Rough Riders Rob MacCachren and Steve Olliges.
Ford said that the privately funded team will run all five points races for 2009 in the Raptor R to continue testing the durability of the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor and its production components. The race truck (the one with the R at the end of it) is powered by a 6.2L V8 that makes a total of 500-hp. The engine is mounted to a production-spec six-speed automatic F-150 transmission.
The F-150 SVT Raptor will be available at dealerships this summer with a Flex Fuel 5.4L liter V8 that produces 320-hp with a maximum torque of 390 lb-ft. A 6.2L V8 making 400-hp and a peak torque of 400 lb-ft will be available early next year.
