Audi Details Its U.S. Plans for the 2009 Q5
Two of the key elements are still missing from the information about Audi's March launch of its highly anticipated Q5 in the U.S. The German automaker still has not released pricing, and the EPA has yet to post official fuel economy numbers. The compact SUV will compete here with the BMW X3, the Infiniti EX35 and the Lexus RX 350.
But Audi on Wednesday laid out some of the specifications for the U.S. Q5, saying it will be the first Audi offering here with Generation 3 MMI and navigation with real-time traffic. It will come with a 270-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 FSI direct injection engine, Quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed Tiptronic transmission, Audi said.
'Pricing expected to be in line with its competitors,' said Audi in a statement.
The 2009 BMW X3 starts at $40,525, including an $825 destination charge. The 2008 Infiniti EX35 starts at $32,765, including an $865 destination charge. The 2009 Lexus RX 350 starts at $38,525, including an $825 destination charge.
Audi pegs the fuel economy on the Q5 at 18 miles per gallon in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway.
Audi said all U.S. Q5s have towing preparation standard, which includes trailer brake controller wiring for use with trailers over 1,500 pounds. Other details include standard 18-inch wheels and all-season tires, LED taillights and aluminum exterior trim.
