Volkswagen to discuss cost cuts

Volkswagen plans to discuss possible cost-cutting measures including production cuts and canceling new models, Automobilwoche said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
 
In an article to be published on Monday, the magazine said VW was reviewing production plans for its factories in Chattanooga in the United States, in Pune, India and in Kaluga, Russia.
 
"The company is discussing which models could be put on ice or canceled altogether in the future," the magazine cited a source as saying.
 
VW now expects the slump in the automotive industry in important markets to last until 2010, the source said.
 
At an internal management conference on Thursday, which will see about 2,000 Volkswagen current and future managers gather at the Dresden trade fair grounds in eastern Germany, CEO Martin Winterkorn would also provide more details on the company's plans for reaching its 2018 growth targets, Automobilwoche said.
