Citroen head Gilles Michel leaves PSA

By Lawrence J. Speer
PSA/Peugeot-Citroen announced Friday that Gilles Michel has left his position as managing director of the Citroen brand.

Michel quit PSA to run the French government's new 20 billion euro strategic investment fund.

PSA said CEO Christian Streiff will temporarily assume Michel's duties at Citroen until a successor is chosen.

Michel, 52, has been a rising star within PSA's upper-management team since joining the company in 2002 as head of platforms, technical affairs and purchasing.

Streiff promoted him in February 2007 to run the Citroen brand and made him a member of PSA's five-person managing board.

Sources at the French carmaker told Automotive News Europe that operations would continue normally at Citroen until a successor is chosen.
