Ford Announces Pricing on 2010 Fusion and Fusion Hybrid

DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2010 Ford Fusion will start at $19,270 when it goes on sale next spring, Ford has announced. The 2010 Fusion Hybrid starts at $27,270. Prices do not include destination.The refreshed Fusion sedan will 'shake up the cutthroat midsize sedan segment,' the company promises. At $19,270, the base Fusion S comes with a new 2.5-liter Duratec four-cylinder engine that makes 175 horsepower — 15 more than the engine on the 2009 model. In addition, new six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions promise a significant improvement in highway fuel economy.The 2010 Fusion SE, priced at $20,545, has 17-inch wheels and a six-speaker Sirius-equipped stereo, and can be equipped with optional Sync 2.0 voice control technology. An upgraded 3.0-liter V6 that makes 240 hp (19 hp more than the 2009 Fusion's V6) is an option on the SE.The SEL model has standard Sync 2.0, along with leather seats and steering wheel and a seven-color light system. Among the options on the SEL are a navigation system, a back-up camera, a blind spot information system, an upgraded Sony audio system and all-wheel drive. As on the Fusion SE, buyers can get the SEL with either the 2.5-liter inline-4 or the 3.0-liter V6.The top-of-the-line Ford Fusion Sport has a standard 263-hp 3.5-liter V6, 18-inch wheels, dual exhaust tips, chrome trim and leather seats with color-contrast piping. Options include Sony audio, the nav system and all-wheel drive. The Sport retails for $25,825.The New York Times reported that 'arguably the largest crowds' at the Los Angeles show press days were in front of the Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid displays. The Fusion and Milan Hybrids can hit speeds up to 47 mph in all-electric mode, Ford says.The hybrid Fusion will be priced at $27,270, which, as Edmunds Green Car Advisor notes, is $1,120 higher than the 2009 Camry Hybrid.Curiously, no pricing has yet been released for the 2010 Mercury Milan, including the Milan Hybrid.Both the 2010 Ford Fusion and the 2010 Mercury Milan will go on sale in the spring of 2009.Inside Line says: This isn't a full redesign for Ford's midsize sedan, but new engines, new transmissions and the debut of the Fusion Hybrid should draw foot traffic to Ford dealerships. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
