PORTALEGRE, Portugal — Mitsubishi's new baja racer will enter its first event in this weekend's Baja Portalegre with a turbodiesel engine under the hood.The Racing Lancer's diesel engine makes use of a two-stage turbocharger that can direct exhaust flow to a small or large turbine based on the engine speed and load. That 3.0-liter V6 is good for 276 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Weight has been reduced with a new tubular steel frame, and a repositioned fuel tank has lowered the center of gravity. The rally car is also equipped with Brembo brakes, 16-inch ventilated discs and BOS adjustable dampers with a wider range of settings. The car's styling is derived from the production model of the Lancer Sportback, which is set to go on sale in Japan by year's end.Mitsubishi's new Racing Lancer will replace the Pajero Evolution.
