KTM Announces Race-Ready Model of Its Open-Cockpit X-Bow

MATIGHOFFEN, Austria —KTM's open-cockpit X-Bow sports car has racing in its DNA, but the company is building a new model specifically for the racetrack with 30 modifications over the base model.Most of the changes to the KTM X-Bow Race are intended to satisfy FIA regulations, with the car meeting the same requirements as open-wheel and American Le Mans Series cars. For performance, KTM has added dampers, brake pads, semi-slick tires and a catalytic converter chosen specifically for race applications. Safety changes include a six-point racing harness, Kevlar-reinforced side panels and a fire extinguisher system. KTM has also removed the handbrake, the license plate holder, and the front fins. The Race model uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged Audi engine as the base model, but KTM is also offering a number of optional parts for the Race, including a data logging system, wider throttle pedal, adjustable front and rear antiroll bars, and racing brake discs. The X-Bow Race is priced at the equivalent of $103,426.KTM is offering customers support through a new Customer Racing Service. For buyers competing in select races, KTM will provide them with a full support crew, spare parts and technical guidance. Additionally, KTM will launch a one-make race series, the KTM X-Bow Super Sport Cup, in both northern and southern Europe for X-Bow Race customers in 2009.Inside Line says: The X-Bow Race is a no-brainer for a car that belongs on the racetrack. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
