AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Tuesday, Chrysler unveiled a trio of all-electric and extended-range electric cars, including a Lotus-based Dodge sports car. Chrysler said the trio would eventually go into production, with one going on sale sometime in 2010 in the U.S. followed by Europe. The automaker would not identify which one. Chrysler further said that eventually, all-electric and range-extended technology would be offered across its entire line of vehicles. The Dodge EV is an all-electric two-seater rear-drive sports car based on a Lotus. Chrysler Tuesday revealed a new partnership with Lotus, details of which were to be revealed by Lotus later the same day. The 200-kilowater motor produces 268 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, shooting the lightweight sports car from zero to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Chrysler claims its top speed is 120 mph plus. Equipped with an advanced lithium-ion battery, its range is 150-200 miles. The Chrysler EV is a Town & Country range-extended electric vehicle. The Jeep EV is a Wrangler range-extended electric vehicle. All of the vehicles are being developed by a relatively new group at Chrysler known as ENVI (for environmental), an in-house organization charged with advancing electric drive and related advanced propulsion technologies.
