Lear to lay off 121 in Indiana

Auto parts  maker Lear Corp. has notified the state of Indiana that it will lay off nearly half the 245 workers at its plant in Hammond.

Southfield.-based Lear says 121 workers will lose their jobs Nov. 3.

The plant produces seats for vehicles built at the nearby Ford Motor Co. assembly plant in Chicago.

The company says the layoffs were triggered by Ford's decision to cut one of two assembly shifts at its plant.

Lear's hourly workers are members of United Auto Workers Local 2335.
