Tech Watch: Honda Rolls Out Driving Stability Technology

TOKYO — Honda on Thursday introduced a new driving stability technology that it says prompts the driver to steer in the correct direction during cornering and in slippery road conditions. Thus far, the new technology will be available only in Japan on the Honda Legend, with a further rollout on the Honda Accord and in Japan in the near future, the automaker said. The new technology is dubbed 'Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering,' or EPS.The automaker said EPS works with its vehicle stability control, which bundles antilock brakes and traction control with side slip control and electric power steering. EPS 'detects instability in slippery road conditions both during cornering and under braking and automatically initiates steering inputs aimed at prompting the driver to steer in the correct direction,' Honda said in a statement. What this means to you: This new safety technology is not yet available in the U.S., but likely will be at some point. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
