Mercedes-Benz BLK: Baby Benz SUV in the works

Weve been hearing about a baby Benz SUV for a while and now AutoCar brings us more details on the upcoming compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz that will share components with the next-generation B-Class due out in 2011.

Known as the Mercedes-Benz BLK, the compact SUV will fit below the GLK and will compete with the upcoming BMW X1, and Land Rover LRX. Mercedes will offer two versions including an all-wheel-drive and a fuel-efficient front-wheel-drive model.

Powetrain choices will include 1.6L to 2.2L?4-cylinder direct-injection diesel and petrol units. Production of the BLK is expected to take place at Mercedes-Benzs Kecskemet, Hungary plant.

We also learned last month that Mercedes-Benz is working on a baby version of the CLS based on the A-Class.
