GM Launches Employee-Discount Incentive Plan for Everyone

DETROIT — General Motors announced on Tuesday that it will offer a sweeping new incentive plan that will give 'employee discounts' to everyone, starting on Wednesday, August 20. The Detroit automaker said the discount covers 'virtually its entire lineup of 2008 model-year Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Saturn, Cadillac, Saab and Hummer vehicles.' GM said 2009 model-year vehicles eligible for employee pricing are the Chevrolet Cobalt and , Pontiac G5 and , and Cadillac CTS. It noted that the program excludes 2008 model-year medium-duty trucks and most 2009 model-year vehicles.Employee discount is considered industry shorthand for substantial savings. Consumers can expect price cuts of several thousand dollars, depending on the vehicle. GM said the program was created to mark the company's 100th anniversary on September 16.GM said special stickers will be in vehicle windows at participating dealerships that show the 'bottom-line price customers will pay, taking into account the employee price and all applicable incentives and rebate offers.'What this means to you: GM can't seem to escape the incentive trap, and that's good news for you. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
