Pontiac Grand Am Wont Start? Could Be This Security Feature

There are thousands of older model Pontiac Grand Ams on the road today. The abundance of these vehicles on the road would make one think that they must be a pretty reliable car, right? So what if you own a Pontiac Grand Am that was made between the years 1999-2002 and you get in it one day to go somewhere when you realize it won't start! Never had a problem with it before, no warning, no signs, just one day all of a sudden- Won't start.

This problem has plagued many Pontiac Grand Am owners over the past years and it has left many out hundreds and even thousands of dollars in expenses related to the 'fixing' of the problem...only to be face with the same problem again someday under the same circumstances...no warning, no signs, just one day all of a sudden- Won't start.

The problem lies in the security feature that is part of the vehicle's anti-theft mechanism, but the big problem is that sometimes the vehicle automatically thinks that you (it's owner) are trying to steal it. When the security feature feels that the car is in danger of being stolen by means of the insertion f the wrong key (or what the car thinks may be the wrong key) it shuts down the fuel system for a period of 15 minutes. For this reason, when the security feature kicks in randomly, some mechanics are quick to assume that the problem lies in the fuel pump of the vehicle.

This was the case with my Grand Am. The first problem I had was deemed the fuel pump and $1000 later I was driving my car home like nothing ever happened-except for the hole in my wallet! Then within a few weeks, the same problem again. This time, well it must have been a faulty fuel pump again, right? Luckily the pump was still under warranty so this time around I was only out the fees associated with having the car towed to the mechanic and wasting a day waiting for it to be 'fixed' again.

It would only be a few months before the problem would arise again and leave me wondering what was really the issue here. Anyone who has had this problem or is currently having this problem has likely felt the same way...How can this possibly be happening again? How do I fix this?
