Nissan is rumored to be working on a SUV convertible based on its popular Nissan Murano crossover. According to InsideLine Nissan designers and engineers are currently working on a drop-top version of the new-generation Murano. The new model could arrive on the market by spring 2010.

That will make the Nissan Murano Convertible the only rival to the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Sources say that Nissan will build the model in very limited numbers and will target the old-folks that still want to have some fun.

The Nissan Murano Convertible will come with a traditional soft-top to keep weight in check. Power will come from the current 3.5L V6 producing 265-hp which would return a fuel-economy of around 21mpg - similar to the current Murano.

Pricing is expected to be $39,080. Honestly for that kind of money - you have many other choices for a convertible. Lets just hope Audi never makes that Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro Concept we saw at the 2007 LA Auto Show.
