LAUPHEIM, Germany - You won't find BMW's Mini Cooper lacking in the personality department. Yet longtime BMW tuner Hamann figured there's always room for improvement; thus, its new twist on the popular small car.

For European customers, Hamann tweaks the diesel Mini Cooper D to achieve 134 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The gasoline-powered Mini Cooper S gets a bump to 201 hp and 221 lb-ft., which in turns slices 0-60 acceleration by 0.5 second.

Hamann also offers a higher-output Sportkit CS 230 on the Cooper S, which includes a reprogrammed ECU, a charge-air cooler and a sport muffler. Output rises to 227 hp and torque climbs to 243 lb-ft., with a resulting increase in top speed to 148 mph.

A new height-adjustable coil-over kit bundles sport shocks and springs, and drops ride height by as much as 2.0 inches. Hamann offers several different versions of its Evo one-piece alloy rims, in sizes up to 18 inches.

Hamann's aero kit for the Mini includes a front skirt with air intakes, side sills and a rear skirt with integral diffuser. The cockpit can be dressed up with aluminum pedals, gearshift and handbrake levers, plus carbon-fiber trim.
