Louisiana governor, others head to GM next week

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Louisiana's governor and other leaders plan to head to Detroit on Aug. 15 to talk to General Motors Corp. about saving local jobs.

Governor Bobby Jindal, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and someone from the Caddo Parish Commission will head to Detroit, where they're expected to meet with some key executives for the automaker.

Jindal says their intent for the trip is to make it clear to GM that Louisiana is willing to be aggressive in being GM's partner in putting people back to work in Louisiana. Last week, GM Shreveport announced it would be getting rid of its entire second shift at the end of September. At least 700 jobs will be cut from GM and hundreds more will also be lost from suppliers.
