Guldstrand Motorsports Corvette Targa
BURBANK, California - If you haven't had any luck getting on the short list at your Chevy dealer for the forthcoming with its supercharged 600-horsepower V8, consider the new Corvette GSRT from Guldstrand Motorsports.
Guldstrand Motorsports is known for its Corvette specialty cars, all dedicated to ultra high performance. Its latest creation is the Corvette GSRT, which stands for Grand Sport Removable Targa. This open-top version of the is meant to be driven from your garage to a competition event like a track day and then driven home again. It's a street-legal supercar.
Guldstrand Motorsports has engineered a unique targa-style top for the Corvette Z06. It delivers the pleasure of open-air driving while retaining the targa hoop to maintain the structural rigidity of the chassis. The top stows integrally with the targa hoop.
At the heart of this Z06 is a Katech-built 427-cubic-inch version of the Chevrolet V8. This normally aspirated V8 features a Blackhawk cold-air intake and a Flowmaster exhaust, and it makes 600 street-legal hp. The bodywork features a front aero splitter, a vented carbon-fiber hood and a spoiler on the rear deck. The chassis has been readied for serious competition with a lower ride height, Guldstrand-tuned suspension, and 295/35R18 front and 345R3519 rear tires on Fiske wheels.
The cost of the modifications is approximately $95,000 on top of the purchase price of a ZO6. Bring a 2007 or 2008 ZO6 to Guldstrand along with a check for $95,000, and you get back the GSRT. The 2008 Z06 carries an MSRP of $71,275 before options, which puts the total starting cost around $166,000.
Dick Guldstrand made his name as one of the most successful Corvette racers of the 1950s and '60s (he went upside-down so often he fastened a roller skate to the top of his rollover bar). Guldstrand's expertise in Corvette engineering has been displayed in a long series of Corvette specialty models from his shop in Burbank, California, and the GSRT is the latest example.
