New partnership could offer fleet fuel savings

Discrete Wireless's solution MARCUS(R) is the leading Web-hosted GPS Fleet Management solution; and with Link It's EZ Maintenance Web (EZM Web) being an industry standard for Web-based Maintenance Tracking and Control applications, a combined solution has significant in pact.
 
"As it relates to fuel savings, fleet management solutions like MARCUS(R), just based upon tracking mileage, side jobs, speeding and idle, have historically saved a fleet almost 10 percent on fuel costs, and that is at $3 a gallon," explains Jeffery Thacher, Discrete Wireless' chairman and president. "With fuel prices today, I believe our MARCUS GPS Fleet Management solution combined with Link It's phenomenally strong Maintenance offering; EZM Web will generate a return on fuel savings higher than 15 percent, maybe extensively. We certainly will publish the results as we progress."
 
Some of the benefits of the combined Web-based software offering include seamless feed vehicle mileage data via web services, hours of use, automatic updates of maintenance schedules, real-time maintenance alert generation and more, according to the companies.
 
"Study after study have shown that timely vehicle maintenance reduces fuel use by at least 4 percent to 5 percent," says Link It's CEO, Wayne McFarland. "Further, EZM Web users can enter expected miles per gallon for each vehicle. If the mile per gallon falls below this setting, EZM Web immediately flags the user to check the vehicle. This is critical; a problem as simple as a clogged air filter can reduce mileage by up to 40 percent."
 
"In addition, customers who use the combination of EZM Web and Discrete Wireless' GPS services know instantly when maintenance is due or if any of their vehicles need to be looked at because the mileage of the vehicle is far past the recommended maintenance period," McFarland continues.
