Paris dealer group exec to head VW brand sales

MUNICH -- A key Porsche-affiliated dealer group executive, Christian Klingler, will become the new head of Volkswagen brand marketing, sales and after sales effective August 1.
 
Currently, Klingler, 39, is responsible for international sales at the Paris-based car retailer PGA Group, which is owned by Porsche Holding, Europe's biggest dealer group.
 
At VW, Klingler will succeed Michael Kern, who left VW earlier this year to head the German car repair group Auto-Teile-Unger.
 
Klingler, an economics graduate, has been part of the management leadership at Porsche Holding since 2004. He has managed the PGA Group since 1998.
 
From 1992 to 1998, Klingler held management positions at Porsche Holding and at the automobile retailer Porsche Inter Auto. He established VW and Audi imports in Slovakia and managed projects in the USA.
 
Porsche Holding is owned by the Porsche and Piech families, who also owned Porsche AG, the sports car maker, and 35.5 percent of VW group.
 
In April, Porsche's North America boss, Peter Schwarzenbauer was appointment as Audi's global head of global sales and marketing, replacing Ralph Weyler, who left Audi to set up a consulting business.
